Why Dilute Essential Oils?

Why should we dilute essential oils?

There is still some confusion surrounding the dilution of essential oils – which is not surprising, given the amount of misleading advice that we see online.

Some brands imply that dilution is optional. What’s the truth? Should we always dilute essential oils? If so, what is the recommended dilution strength?

Aromatherapy: Does It Work?

Does aromatherapy really work?

When it comes to aromatherapy, the million-dollar question is “Does it really work?”

Many people automatically dismiss aromatherapy (or any type of complementary therapy) and refuse to even consider it as a credible option. People often fear the unknown and are quick to label anything they don’t understand as “quackery”.

Although there’s a much greater awareness about aromatherapy these days – and it’s even started to filter into some NHS advice – there is still a lot of mistrust and scepticism about it.

Why do we love some smells more than others?

Why do we love some smells more than others?

Our sense of smell is highly subjective.

Some scents you’ll either love or hate.

Why do we like some smells more than others? Have you ever felt drawn to a particular essential oil?

My Essential Oil Routine

What is my essential oil routine - The English Aromatherapist

I’m often asked about how I use essential oils at home – do I clean my house with them? Do I add essential oils to my cooking? Do I make all my own beauty products from scratch? Do I have diffusers in every room of the house? Am I applying oils and blends to my skin all day long? Do I wash all my fruit in essential oils? Have I chucked out my entire medicine cabinet and replaced it all with oils…?

No.

Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but I don’t actually use essential oils all the time and for everything.

Spotlight on…Plant Therapy

Spotlight on Plant Therapy

Although I’m based in the UK, around 60% of my followers are from the US and Canada. Every day, I’m asked for recommendations about essential oil brands from my Stateside friends.

Choosing a reputable brand can be a minefield, so it’s no wonder that beginners can feel overwhelmed and unsure where to purchase their essential oils.

Today I’m talking about Plant Therapy, an essential oil brand from the USA.

What To Do When We See Bad Advice

What to do when friends give bad advice

Essential oils are more popular than ever before. Isn’t that great news? Well, yes…and no.

Unfortunately, the downside of this surging growth is that there’s also more bad advice than ever before. I’ve previously written about this in more depth here.

We’re witnessing a deepening “us and them” divide between MLM and non-MLM users. Almost every Facebook discussion ends up in a bitter dispute over which oils are the best, the purest, the only ones that can be trusted. It feels like we’re constantly embroiled in battle. Rather than becoming united in our love for essential oils, we’re rapidly growing apart. It’s pretty ironic that we’re all getting so angry about such a beautiful and calming therapy.

GRAS essential oils: Safe to ingest?

Essential oils and GRAS safety

I’ve previously written why I don’t believe it’s safe to drink essential oils in water or casually ingest them on a regular basis. Internal use is never something that’s considered lightly by professional aromatherapists. The promotion of casual ingestion is a worrying trend that appears to be sweeping the internet.
