All or Nothing?

Aromatherapy is not all or nothing

I recently talked about Why Essential Oils are Not a Magic Wand. In the video, I explained that essential oils alone cannot be used as a quick-fix to solve all your problems in life.

Holistic therapy involves taking a wider perspective. More than just focusing on specific symptoms, it’s about treating the person as a whole – mind, body and spirit. Quite frankly, using a few drops of a “weight-loss blend” is unlikely to have much impact if you’re not also addressing your own diet and exercise habits.

So, it’s important to see the big picture – BUT… aromatherapy does not necessarily require an “all or nothing” approach.

Quick Answers to Common Myths

Quick Answers for Common Essential Oil Myths

There are so many myths about essential oils and aromatherapy. Of course, some issues will always be a matter of opinion. Many things are not purely black and white. I am NOT here to say I know it all!

But there are some myths that keep circulating round. When we hear them, it’s not always easy to quickly find articles or links to back up our claims.

I thought it would be easy to gather a collection of links in one place, for quick answers to those common myths we hear every day.

Where’s the scientific proof?

Where is the scientific evidence for aromatherapy

One of the most common objections to aromatherapy is the belief that it has no scientific basis, and therefore should not be taken seriously as a credible treatment.

Logical Fallacies in Aromatherapy

How to spot a logical fallacy

If you’re a regular Facebook user, you’ll probably have noticed that conversations on there can get pretty heated, to say the least. A friendly post can descend into flame wars in a matter of minutes.

As essential oil popularity explodes, so does the amount of unauthorised information. We’re now facing information overload from an array of conflicting sources – much of it inaccurate, unsafe or outright dangerous.

I’ve previously written about what to do when we see bad advice, but I thought it would be useful to talk about logical fallacies and how they relate to aromatherapy advice.

Not All Essential Oils Are Equal

Not all essential oils are made equal

I’ve decided to write about a topic that often crops up on social media – essential oil quality. Or, more specifically, why not all “essential oils” are made equal.

This is a potentially thorny issue, which never fails to provoke a heated debate. Online conversations can quickly descend into arguments, and it’s not always easy to differentiate between fact and fiction.

Make Your Own Reed Diffuser

Make your own aromatherapy reed diffuser with essential oils

Have you ever made your own aromatherapy reed diffuser? I’ve had a lot of requests about these, so I thought I’d investigate and make my own version. I’m going to be honest with you here – I’m a trained therapist, NOT a chemical formulator, so I needed to research this subject. I’m used to working with clients and skin care products, rather than making home accessories!

Watch my video below to see a basic “how to” video for an essential oil reed diffuser – and keep watching for my honest update at the end!

Essential Oils: Where to Start?

Help! Where do I start with essential oils?

With so much online information at our fingertips, it can be difficult to know where to begin using essential oils. As a member of several aromatherapy-related Facebook groups, I regularly come across posts from beginners asking “Where do I start?!”

Perhaps you like the idea of essential oils, but aren’t sure how to get going? Maybe you’ve bought a few oils, but feel confused and overwhelmed by online advice? Are you frustrated by all the mixed messages and feel ready to throw the towel in?!

Don’t worry! Everyone starts off a beginner. I wanted to put together some tips and links for any newbies out there who are feeling a little lost in what often feels like a quagmire of contradictory information.

I’ll try to keep it as succinct as possible, because the last thing you need right now is to be bombarded with yet MORE “stuff” to read…
